"Love the individual servings of Special K" 2008-07-25
By Baby Boomer (California Central Coast)
My husband and I love these. This is so much easier and nicer than cereal from a big box... we find that we eat these often; and hardly ever ate cereal otherwise. These are great to take to work. The individual portion size helps us, and we love having the freshness these provide. The cost is excellent as well. And the container recyclable.

I purchased these for my mother in a nursing home and she loves this size because of the container. She does not have to find a bowl. She can have these in her room and it really beats buying a large box for her.

 "Store Brands Are Better" 2008-11-18
By willsgrl84 (WV USA)
Kellogg's laid claim to the concept of this type of cereal bar, yet the texture of these is very soft and more like a cookie. Likewise, both the fillings and the crusts are sickeningly sweet and almost overpower the fact that the idea is that the bar is supposed to taste like "real" fruit. Any variety of Wal-Mart's Great Value brand of cereal bars trumps these in a heartbeat. GV's crust is more dense the sweetness is subtle, allowing pleasant fruitiness to filter though. I highly recommend those.

"Great for summer camp snacks" 2008-08-07
By D. Simon (Boca Raton, FL United States)
I sent these to my son at overnight camp for a nutritious snack.Because the bars are individually wrapped, they stayed fresh during his camp session. They were tasty and great for a mid day snack or a breakfast treat if he did not like what was served. Also, they were accepted by his camp as they are Kosher.

 "More Cookies than Nutrition" 2008-01-27
By Suzan Matos (PA USA)
The name of these "Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars" might lead one to believe they have some whole grain nutritional value. But when you read the packaging the only nutrition comes additives. There is no fiber to speak of and they are loaded with high fructose corn syrup.

I use them when my blood sugar drops too low much as I would a piece of candy. These travel pretty well and do give you a bit of volume so you don't feel hungry but they are far from being a healthy food choice.

"Great taste, great fast food breakfast" 2008-01-05
By carolyn (Canal Winchester, OH)
These have such a wonderful taste to them - all kids I've ever given them to just love them, even the picky ones. If you're an adult, they certainly won't do much to fill you up in the mornings - you'll need a side of eggs or something to go with them, but they do taste great, are a great snack for baseball games, etc., and really help out when you need a toddler snack in a hurry. Great options, we eat them all the time, and really, they're not just for breakfast! Recommend!

 "Nutri-NOT Bars" 2007-07-10
By P. Gould (Colorado)
These bars are a great example of a sneaky marketing ploy by a major food corporation. By using the word "Nutri" as part of the name of the product, consumers are tricked into thinking these are healthy. These should really be called CANDY-GRAIN bars! Here's the nutritional low down:

1. These bars contain 13 grams of sugar. (Notice the first ingredient in the "filling" is strawberry preserves, made of high fructose corn syrup and strawberries. The next ingredient is...corn syrup, followed by fructose, which is also a sweetener.) More sweeteners appear on down the ingredients list. Out of the 140 calories in this tiny bar, 62 calories come from sugar.

2. These bars have partially hydrogenated oil in them. That's the type of oil that contains artery clogging trans fat. Yuck.

3. They contain less than 1 gram of fiber. That means that the bars include very, very little whole grain or fruit, either of which would increase fiber content.

4. They do contain some vitamins. But these are all in the form of additives. (They are listed at the end of the ingredient list.) Essentially, they've ground up a bit of a vitamin pill into each bar. Obviously, there's no need to eat candy to get powdered vitamins. If you want the extra vitamins--just take a vitamin pill!

5. While they were at it, they added 5% DV of sodium per bar.

I am not opposed to enjoying junk food now and then. If these bars tasted great, I might indulge in one as dessert from time to time. However, there's lots of junk food I like better...so I won't bother with these bars. A better choice, for taste and nutrition, is Kashi TLC Crunchy Granola Bar - Pumpkin Spice Flax, 6 - 1.4 oz Bars, 8.4 oz or one of the other Kashi bars. Or real strawberries, of course!

"After 48 Years, This Book Tops The Best Sellers List" 2009-08-24
By prisrob (New EnglandUSA)

Julia Child et al, wrote this mastery of a cookbook over 48 years ago. It has finally made the best seller list this week. The success of the film 'Julia and Julie' and the book of the same name has given Julia Child a leg up! It is surprising that women who have bought this cookbook are surprised at the amount of butter involved. Americans are afraid of butter. The French use butter and always have in great proportions, but they also eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and they walk- they walk everywhere.

Nora Ephron, Director of 'Julie and Julia' says she had as a goal of her film that people would buy Julia's book. Not only buy it, but cook with it. And, they have in numbers that run into the thousands, 22, 000 to be exact. The recipes are not difficult, they take a little extra time, that's all. This is not 'put your dinner on the table in 30 minutes' cookbook. Do you remember Julia Child's cooking show on PBS? We used to watch it every week and laugh along with her as she dropped the chicken on the floor, picked it up and said, no one is here but me!

The food looked luscious, even in black and white. My first recipe was the Beef Bourgione and it is still a staple in my kitchen. He pate brisee is also the best recipe for pie crust and it is so much easier now with a blender. Pie Crust that is flaky and buttery and supports the filling. I recently made a blueberry pie, the entire family was ecstatic. Their favorite is chocolate creme pie but a fresh blueberry pie in the summer with vanilla ice cream tops a meal!

I received Julia Child's 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' again for my birthday this year. It replaced the old tattered copy that has its rightful place in my bookcase. The old one was used and showed it, but isn't that what we want in our cookbooks? Julis would be pleased, I think. Unlike, Julie, I am not going to try each recipe, but will go for my tried and true and some new ones, in memory of Julia.

Bon Appetit! You can't beat that!

Highly Recommended. prisrob 08-23-09

"This Revised One is the One to Get" 2009-08-14
By Just Loves Books (Alabama)
I ordered this after seeing the movie. I was a little concerned about whether I really wanted the revised edition or try to find an original. I ordered this one, and was so pleased. It has the original instructions and then a note, like with aspic..It has the instructions for using the calf foot, like in the movie "Julie and Julia" and then tells you how to use boxed gelatin instead, since it is readily available now.

I, a down-home Southern cook, at the age of 53, who thought no one could teach this old dog new tricks, have Boeuf Bourguignon simmering in my oven as I write this, and my husband said the house smells better than it ever has with anything cooking (and he loves my cooking!) The only bad part of this recipe is smelling it, wanting to eat it, and having to wait for it to cook slowly in the oven!

Julia Child is a genius, and I can't wait to try more recipes! Love, Love, Love this cookbook. But now I want new cookware and knives............

I had heard about this book for years, and the current focus on Mrs. Child's contributions to eating in America and other English speaking locales made me want to own and either cook from it or read it cover to cover.

The book received from the book seller is in precisely the condition stated. It was received quickly.

"The BEST book about cooking that I own" 2009-08-11
By Sekhmet2 (Philadelphia)
When you start to use this cookbook, it is easy to understand why it has remained a classic since 1961. It is not like the usual cookbook with big, beautiful photographs, a long list of ingredients and directions on putting everything together. It includes commentary by Julia Child that is really funny sometimes and very useful in understanding how the various ingredients work to make the dish. And, not all the recipes require hours to assemble. The vegetable dishes, in particular, are fairly easy.

I just made Boeuf A La Bourguignonne (Beef Stew) from this book that is included in the movie, "Julia & Julia", for a pre-theater gathering at my house. I served the dish as an appetizer so my friends would know what it tasted like when we went to see the movie. Everyone loved it. When you make this dish, it is easy to see why it is so different from most other beef stew recipes. Each of the ingredients--stew beef, pearl onions, mushrooms, carrots, onions-- is treated individually to get the most flavor and then combined at the end to make the dish. Fantastic flavor! It is so rich that it just melts in your mouth.

If you love French food and want to make some in your home, get this book. This is the definitive book on the subject and it is not that hard to make incredible dishes.

I have made these dishes: Salade Nicoise, Ratatouille, Whole Baked Tomatoes, Chicken Breasts with Mushrooms and Cream, Fish Filets poached in White Wine and Eggs Baked in Ramekins. I highly recommend each.

The copy I have of this book has been used so many times since 1963 that it's just barely together. The most amazing thing about the book is that you can actually understand the classic French recipes in it. It truly is not rocket science, just cooking wonderful things for your family and friends.

A dazzling novel in the most untraditional fashion, this is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate love affair endures across a sea of time and captures the two lovers in an impossibly romantic trap, and it is Audrey Niffenegger's cinematic storytelling that makes the novel's unconventional chronology so vibrantly triumphant.

An enchanting debut and a spellbinding tale of fate and belief in the bonds of love, The Time Traveler's Wife is destined to captivate readers for years to come.

 "Pretty good, not great" 2009-08-23
By Nikki P. (Arlington,VA)
I like the basic plot idea which is that Claire (the wife) knows Henry (the time traveler) since she was a girl and when they meet in the present she knows him but he doesn't know her yet. See Henry doesn't remember his travels through time, only that he ends up with no shoes and frostbite when he returns. It's a dangerous and unpredictable job this time travel, much like being married to a soldier who goes to Iraq. He leaves and he's gone you worry he will not return home. So sci-fi it is not. Love story it sort of is. But once it explores their married life it wasn't all that interesting in to me. And it's very morose. Time travel is not fun for married people, people! Plus the details of the time travel is spotty at best and the ending wasn't as rewarding as I'd hoped. The writing is good though and it is a book I wanted to read through to the end.

 "Needs editing" 2009-08-23
By TNPatti (Portland, TN United States)
After hearing rave reviews, I was disappointed in this book. The premise is great and I didn't have too much trouble following the characters through the twisted plot line. The fact is this book is just too long. There's not enough story to carry it for the 17 hours I listened. It was like the author had to use every adjective she ever knew when a couple would have been satisfactory. The telling of the long dreams was just plain boring. The long passages in French were irritating. I found it to be somewhat pretentious. A good editor could have cut this book by a third and had a truly great novel. All that being said, I still found it interesting enough to finish.

"Convenient and Cost Effective Breakfast" 2009-07-23
By H. Niethammer (Washington, DC)
I am single and live in an apartment with a small galley kitchen. I do not do much cooking. I bought these cereal cups originally to take to work for a fast breakfast each morning but I find myself eating this relatively healthy food as a nighttime snack as well.

The portion is perfect for an adult to eat. The convenience of having the sturdy plastic cup as the container cannot be beat. Tear off paper sealed top, pour milk, eat and throw away.

Three weeks later, I have not noticed any staleness in the product, which was my only concern with buying 60 at one time.

I've been buying this cereal from Amazon for quite a while now but in the 24 oz. size..4 boxes to the carton. If you're counting pennies this size is the better value. Little more cumbersome to deal with but worth the savings. I love the Subscribe and Save. Don't have to worry about running out or taking the extra time each month to place an order. Amazon takes the work out of shopping for my favorite cereal and saves me a bundle too. By the way, if you've got IBS with constipation this cereal plus Activa once a day REALLY makes a big difference.

"good but not quite the best" 2008-02-05
By Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service)
Kellogg's Nutri-Grain cereal bars have an apple cinnamon flavor that I love! They make a great quick breakfast when you can't take time for something more substantial; and they are good snacks for people on the go and for kids after school.

These bars are relatively low in fat--and there's no trans-fat--thank goodness! They have no cholesterol and they are low in sodium. They do have 26 grams of carbohydrates per bar, however.

The vitamin and nutrition information is good but it could have been better. I suspect Kellogg's "sugars these up" to make them sweet and a bit more addictive than they really should be. There's no vitamin C but you do get some vitamin content including B6 and A. Of course, these bars don't provide 100% of these vitamins. They're not truly health bars. In addition, they do contain some sugar. If that is a concern for you, ask your doctor before eating these cereal bars.

Overall, as another reviewer notes, these are great for kids who don't want breakfast before school; and if you're on the go these are better than candy bars for sure! Try some and see!
